Down Rodeo
It has been well documented that the sphere of influence PETA has reaches as long as the roots of a Bonsai tree. Most targets of PETA usually cave to the pressure put on them, and government organizations are no exception. This time, not only is PETA is focusing on a government organization (the United States army), but the malevolent "rodeo" as well. The United States sponsors many different Rodeos, and use the opportunity to recruit new soldiers. This is actually a great tactic by the Army, as the majority of people who attend rodeo events are exactly the type of people you want on the frontlines.
PETA alleges the US Army puts up two million per year for rodeo sponsorships, which basically means that "American citizens' tax dollars are fueling horrific and cruel rodeo events such as calf roping, steer wrestling, and bull riding." Atrocious. Usually American tax dollars go to such things as treating prisoners of war humanely, letting foreign nations handle their own internal problems, and most importanly, doing everything necessary to avoid going to war.
However, the one thing the really irks PETA is what happens to these proud athletes of the barnyard after their playing careers have come to an end. Apparently "when they are too old, tired, or injured to continue on the rodeo circuit, most of these animals end up in slaughterhouses." This, of course, is opposed to raising these animals on a farm where they would no doubt be able to graze in the safety of an enclosed field until they die of old age, and are then given a proper burial.
Just as another testament to the cluelessness of PETA, and their misguided principles...here is an excerpt from a letter they want you to sign and send out....
"There is no room for rodeos in a civilized society, and surely the military doesn't need to recruit people who find it amusing to harass and beat up animals."
Right, but it's totally acceptable for a civilized society to recruit people who find it amusing to harass, torture, rape, and kill the citizens of the country they subjugate.
